Why Urdu to Arabic is tricky
Urdu speakers often feel Arabic is half familiar. The alphabet overlaps, the religious vocabulary overlaps, and words such as ilm, kitaab, qalam and intizaar are shared. That familiarity is where the traps are.
- Urdu letters Arabic does not have. پ چ گ ٹ ڈ ژ have no Arabic equivalent, so a name like Pervez is written بَرْوِيز with a b, and Urdu ے and ں disappear.
- Shared words with other meanings. Urdu mazhab means "religion"; Arabic مَذْهَب (madhhab) is a school of law. Urdu takleef is "trouble"; Arabic تَكْلِيف is more like "burden" or "assignment". The model translates the meaning, not the spelling.
- Verb at the end versus verb at the front. Urdu says main ghar ja raha hoon, "I home going am"; Arabic says adhhabu ilaa l-bayt, "go-I to the-home". Every sentence is reordered.
- Politeness. Urdu aap and tum have no Arabic counterpart; Arabic uses أَنْتَ (anta) to a man and أَنْتِ (anti) to a woman whatever the status. The tool adds a note when it assumes who you are talking to.

Tips for better results
Choose the dialect by the reader: Gulf or Saudi for a sponsor or employer in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Egyptian for Cairo, Standard Arabic for anything written or formal. Write one idea per request; long Urdu paragraphs with several aap-clauses are where errors creep in. Type numbers as digits. If the Arabic you receive has no vowels, paste it into Arabic to Urdu to get it voweled and translated. For single words and greetings, the how to say phrasebook already lists them with harakat, and the English to Arabic transliteration page shows how Latin spellings become Arabic letters.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Arabic language close to Urdu?
No. They share the script and a large religious and literary vocabulary, but Arabic is a Semitic language and Urdu an Indo-Aryan one; sentence structure, verbs and most everyday words are different.
Does Google Translate handle Urdu to Arabic?
Yes, into Standard Arabic without vowel marks. This page adds the dialect menu, harakat on every result and a transliteration, which Google does not show.
Can I get Gulf Arabic from Urdu for work in Dubai or Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Select Gulf or Saudi in the dialect menu; the Standard Arabic line stays underneath so you can use the formal version in writing.
Is there an Urdu to Arabic converter for letters only?
This tool translates meaning rather than swapping letters. For a name or a word you want written in Arabic script rather than translated, use the name in Arabic page or type the word alone and read the harakat line.
Is Urdu to Arabic translation free?
Yes, with a daily free limit for the site and no account. Nothing you type is stored.
