Translate Egyptian Arabic into English
Translate Egyptian Arabic into English on this page: paste the message you received, in Arabic script or in Franco spelling like 3amla eh, and read it in English. You also get your own text back with harakat and a transliteration, so you can see how it is said. Free, no account, nothing stored.
Translations are generated by an AI model and can be wrong; the Standard Arabic line is there so you can compare. Up to 1000 characters at a time.
What you get on this page
- The direction is set to Arabic to English and the dialect of your text to Egyptian, so pasted messages are read as Masri, not as Standard Arabic.
- Three lines under the box: the English, your text with vowel marks, and its transliteration in chat letters.
- Free, 1,000 characters per request, a daily limit for the whole site, nothing kept after the page answers.
Translate Egyptian Arabic into English from a WhatsApp message
- Long-press the message in WhatsApp, tap Copy, come back here and paste it into the box.
- Leave Egyptian selected under Dialect of your text. If the message mixes Arabic and English words, paste everything; the English parts come through unchanged.
- Press Translate. The first line is the English meaning. The second is the Arabic you pasted with full harakat, which tells you how the words are read. The third is the transliteration, so you can answer in Franco if that is how you two type.
If the message arrived in Latin letters (enta fen, 3amla eh, kolo tamam), paste it as it is. Franco spelling differs from person to person, so look at the voweled Arabic the page returns. If it does not match what you expected, retype the word with the standard digits (3 for ayn, 7 for the hard h, 2 for the glottal stop).

Reading the Franco digits
Egyptians type Arabic in Latin letters with digits for the sounds English lacks. The set is small: 2 is the glottal stop (the Cairo sound of qaf, as in 2alb, heart), 3 is ayn (3ayez, I want), 5 is kh (5alas), 6 is the emphatic t, 7 is the hard h (7abibi), 8 is gh and 9 is the emphatic s. The transliteration line on this page uses the same digits, so what you read here is what you can type back. The transliteration page has the full letter table.
Accuracy and limits
An AI language model does the translation. Egyptian chat is full of jokes, sarcasm and film quotes, and that is where it misreads; plain messages about plans, family and work come out well. Franco input is less reliable than Arabic script because spellings vary. The voweled line is your check: if the harakat make a different word from the one you expected, the model read it differently from you. Not for contracts, medical or legal text. One request takes up to 1,000 characters; the site has one daily free limit; nothing is stored. To answer in Egyptian, go to English to Egyptian Arabic, or read the dialect overview on the Egyptian Arabic translator page. For formal Arabic, Arabic to English starts with Standard Arabic.
Frequently asked questions
Can I translate Egyptian Arabic to English from Franco letters?
Yes. Paste the Latin-letter message as it is with Egyptian selected. Because people spell Franco differently, check the voweled Arabic line the page returns before relying on the English.
Why does the page show my own Arabic again?
Because it adds harakat and a transliteration to it. That lets you read the message aloud and learn the words, not only get the meaning.
Does Google translate Egyptian Arabic to English?
Google reads everything as Standard Arabic, so Egyptian words like eeh (what) or mish (not) are often guessed wrong or skipped. Here the dialect setting tells the model to read Masri.
What does 'ya3ni' mean in a text?
Literally it means; in chat it is a filler like like or I mean, and on its own, as a reply, it means so-so.
Is there a limit on how much I can paste?
1,000 characters per request, about 150 words, within the daily free limit for the whole site. Paste a long chat in parts.
