Why Indonesian to Arabic is tricky
Indonesian is full of Arabic: waktu (وَقْت), kursi (كُرْسِيّ), ilmu, dunia, kabar, masjid, adil, maaf and the days Senin, Selasa, Rabu, Kamis, Jumat and Sabtu all came from Arabic through trade and Islam. The loanwords make Arabic feel close, but the grammar is from another world.
- No tenses, no gender, no plural endings in Indonesian; Arabic has all three, plus a dual. Saya pergi can be "I go", "I went" or "I will go", and the model has to pick one Arabic form, often from context you did not give it.
- Script. Indonesian uses Latin letters, Arabic runs right to left with the short vowels left out; the harakat line restores them.
- Sounds. Indonesian has no ع ح خ ق; the loanwords were simplified (ilmu for 3ilm, kabar for khabar), so the Arabic original can sound unfamiliar even when the word is "the same".
- Loanwords that moved. Indonesian kitab means a scripture or classical text; Arabic كِتَاب (kitaab) is any book. Selamat became a greeting; Arabic سَلَامَة (salaama) is "safety".

Tips for better results
Say when things happen: add kemarin, besok or sedang so the model chooses the right Arabic tense. Mention who you are talking to, a man, a woman or a group, because Arabic changes the verb. For a pidato or a classroom text keep Standard Arabic; for a message to a friend in Cairo or Jeddah pick Egyptian or Saudi. Keep each request under a few sentences. Indonesian names go into Arabic by sound; check them on the name in Arabic page. The reverse direction is Arabic to Malay for Malaysian readers, or press the swap arrow here for Indonesian. For reading any Arabic in Latin letters use Arabic transliteration, and for greetings the how to say phrasebook.
